Permitted development rights for larger rear extensions to homes have been made permanent in England.

Larger single-storey extensions without planning permission were first introduced six years ago and had previously been scheduled to end on 30 May 2019.

The Permitted Development rights allow up to six metres for semi-detached and terraced houses; a single-storey rear extension of up to eight metres in length for a detached house;  and with coverage of up to 50% of the garden.

The Local Planning Authority is still to be informed via the neighbour consultation scheme of the proposed after submission of a prior approval application.
