Project Description

Our clients purchased their home from their previous 2 bed flat and were expecting a new arrival, so we had a task on our hands to provide additional living and dining space.

The house was situated near the main high street and Chessington Station. The property comprised of a small dark kitchen and bathroom further beyond the existing outrigger and not suitable for modern family living.

The property also enjoyed one of the longest gardens on the street with enough space for future landscaping.

Kingston Council required that any extension to the property matching the existing style of the building. Our client benefitted from applying under the Prior Notification Application upto 6m extensions. The house itself is a narrow terrace property, therefore the extension would also be long and narrow.

KLC Architects also had to find the most effective way of ensuring the property is built in time until the arrival of their new born. Our client benefitted with our Project Management and site operations services keeping them fully informed and up-dated with progress as well as evaluating the finishes, fixtures and fittings.

The other challenge was privacy. Our client’s house between two other terrace properties and even they have great neighbours, privacy was paramount. The design provided a flood of light from the rooflights above

The new ground floor extension provided room for an open plan kitchen space with the bathroom location replacing the old kitchen location. The flat roof construction benefitted from rooflights capturing as much sunlight. The overall transformation of the space made the house feel open and connected than it was previously.
