The brief
Our clients required a solution to develop the land next to their property to create a new home that maximizes yield while maintaining the character of the area. The new dwelling needed to provide modern living spaces with ample natural light and a contemporary interior design, alongside practical features such as parking.
The challenge
The key challenge was to design a house that, from the exterior, would appear indistinguishable from an originally built structure, respecting the traditional architectural context. Simultaneously, the interior and garden had to incorporate a clean, contemporary aesthetic. Planning approval and discharge of planning conditions had to be secured to move the project forward.
The outcome
Planning approval was obtained along with discharge of planning conditions, enabling works to commence in 2021. The resulting design by KLC Architects blends Georgian architectural grandeur with contemporary detailing. The house features a traditional façade with smooth painted render and a Welsh slate roof, while the rear includes large openings to maximize light and garden views, successfully marrying tradition with modern living.
