The brief
The original house had been extended in the past. The kitchen and utility rooms at the back of the house were small and dark and needed to be comprehensively redesigned to make a spacious room for the couple’s two children.
Furthermore, the house had suffered from previously unmanaged planning application by previous Architects and we were approached as the reliable Architects and by working with the Planners, we were able to obtain the planning permission, and works are scheduled to start in January 2021.
The challenge
The project was complicated by previous failed planning applications and concerns over structural safety. Gaining the trust of the planners and addressing structural issues were critical. The design also needed to marry traditional period features with modern, open-plan living, all while meeting planning regulations and ensuring structural integrity.
The outcome
Working closely with expert engineers, KLC Architects redesigned and rebuilt the interior spaces, ensuring all supporting walls were structurally sound. The redesigned dining, kitchen, and utility areas now flow seamlessly into one magnificent, light-filled space.
A standout achievement was securing planning approval for a striking double-pitched roof with a glass slot window, complemented by panoramic glazed doors that flood the home with natural light and create a contemporary architectural statement.
The interior design expertly blends period moldings with modern elements, achieving a dramatic yet harmonious fusion of old and new. Works were scheduled to commence in January 2021, marking a fresh start for this Bexley home.
